Amedore eyes run for new Senate district

March 14, 2012  – The Business Review

Home-builder and state Assemblyman George Amedore Jr. (R-Rotterdam) all but confirmed to The Business Review that he will run for a new Senate seat Republicans want to create.

The Legislature could approve new Senate and Assembly districts as soon as today, a key step in a process that occurs after every U.S. Census.

Republicans currently have a 32-30 majority in the Senate. They want to add a new district in the Capital Region to boost the odds they can retain power—though Gov. Andrew Cuomo could reject the plan.

“I want—well, I’m definitely interested. Definitely,” Amedore, 42, said in an interview. “I want to make sure the lines will be created, that they are legitimate, before I finalize my decision.”

Amedore has registered a new committee to explore a potential Senate run.

“There are a lot of encouraging people out there saying, ‘Yes, we want you to do this,’ ” Amedore added. “I see a lot of support out there.”
